Business & Technology University in Tbilisi to Issue Blockchain Verifiable Diplomas

Blockchain continues to move beyond fintech and empowers other industries with the secure and transparent stack. A collaboration between Emercoin and Business & Technology University in Tbilisi, Georgia (BTU), provided education sector with verifiable diplomas and other certificates on an encrypted and secure app. Now all competencies of graduates will be crystal-clear verified.

BTU is using the open-source “Trusted Diploma” platform, built on the Emercoin Blockchain. The collaboration between education sector and the cryptocurrency company aims at helping schools, businesses and graduates validate the online accuracy and authenticity of education credentials. Ground-breaking blockchain system enables administrators to store and share verifiable diplomas and other education certificates on an encrypted and secure app.

Emercoin and BTU address a complicated social issue in both developed and developing countries. Due to widespread corruption and manipulation, online displays of education credentials are increasingly viewed as unreliable proofs of work. Graduates also face difficulty obtaining their records from colleges or school systems that have closed or otherwise refuse to recognize their legitimate credentials. The problem was cited as a global crisis in a 2016 report to UNESCO and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

“Much like the little ‘check mark’ on Twitter or Facebook profiles, companies like LinkedIn or Indeed.com could use this to validate the data represented on profiles, ensuring that data is tamper-proof and accurate,” – says Emercoin advisor and venture capitalist Bill Tai. – “Through secure, distributed blockchain services the company has managed to come up with flexible, user-friendly and available for everyone technological solution”.

“Trusted Diploma will help us all combat growing levels of manipulation and corruption and ensure that the education credentials we see online are valid,” said Kostiantyn Bigus, MP of Emercoin. “We urge everyone to join our effort, which will improve professional services and protect people from dangerous fraud in the health care, legal, real estate and other sectors.”

The BTU, which opened doors in 2016 at Silicon Valley Tbilisi to offer students innovative new approaches to learning, is placing this project on the Emercoin Blockchain because of its flexibility through an innovative range of distributed services.

“We are very happy to work with the innovative Emercoin team on this crucially important project. The Trusted Diploma platform will help our school build a secure and immutable database of education certificates, which will help our graduates as they pursue successful careers.” – said Mikheil Batiashvili, the BTU university rector and Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia.

The company says that through its Name Value Storage (NVS) capability, Emercoin is more efficient and less expensive than other platforms. While Bitcoin is well suited for financial transactions, Emercoin’s NVS allows for efficient time-stamping of META-Data on its own blockchain that in turn gets merge-mined into Bitcoin Blockchain for security.

This past January, leading provider of blockchain solutions Bitfury Group along with Canadian crypto investment firm First Block Capital invested in Emercoin with a promise of launching new pilot projects that solve complex problems for governments, companies, institutions and individuals around the world.
